For Bi Visibility Week, akt would like to take the time to spotlight and celebrate bisexual people and address the issues they face.

Minutes

13% of bisexual people have experienced discrimination when accessing services due to their sexuality.

At least 30% of respondents to our survey who had experienced homelessness were bisexual.

We encourage community and safety under the bisexual/polysexual umbrella however you choose to identify, as struggles and experiences are similar.

There may be overlap with the definitions of each of these sexualities, but the differences and language used are important. To learn more about these differing identities under the bisexual umbrella please see bi.org’s resource.

bisexual support & social groups

Listed below are support and social groups for the bisexual community.

Bi Ireland Network

are a social group who run events at prides as well as an ongoing book club.

Brum Bi Group

is a bisexual 18+ social group for anyone who fits under the bisexual umbrella.

Bi Cymru

are a group dedicated to promoting LGBTQ+ events for bisexual people and to offer support.

Leeds Bi Social Group

engage in regular social activities. The link provided connects to their public page where they signpost to a private secure group page.

London Bisexuals

are a meetup group who regularly have events in London, such as an upcoming London + online Bi Pride event.

Bisexual Underground

is a London-based, friendly pub meet for bisexuals and friends that meets once a month.

Biphoria

is the UK’s longest running bi organisation and over 25 years later still meets regularly online.

Bi-Panic! Southampton

is a social group for anyone in the Southampton area attracted to more than one gender.

BiCon

is the UK’s national Bisexual convention, that takes place generally in mid-August.

helplines for the bisexual community

We understand that just because we are in Bi Visibility week, that doesn't change the struggles many LGBTQ+ people face with regards to their mental and physical wellbeing. If you are struggling, please reach out to the following organisations who are ready to help.

LGBT Switchboard

a phone line and online chat service that operates from 10AM to 10PM daily. Their Number is 0800 0119 100.

Galop

are a charity dedicated to helping LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence through their helpline and web chat service.

The Proud Trust

are an LGBT+ youth focussed charity who run youth groups and have many resources to help from learning about identity to their webchat.

MindOut

offer online mental health support to LGBTQ+ people across the UK.

LGBT Helpline Scotland

offer information and emotional support to the entire LGBTQ+ community across Scotland, including pansexual queer, intersex and asexual people.

The Mix

is a free support service for anyone under the age of 25. You can contact them via email at help@themix.org.uk.
