digital community outreach volunteer (newcastle)
This role will involve spreading the word about akt far and wide, letting LGBTQ+ young people know we’re here to support them if or when they need us.
Make a difference today by supporting LGBTQ+ young people who are experiencing, or at risk of homelessness.
Volunteers have always been at the heart of the organisation since akt began in 1989 and they continue to play an important role supporting our work with LGBTQ+ young people experiencing homelessness or living in a hostile environment. We have volunteers involved across a wide range of roles, in different locations and giving varying amounts.
Come and join our friendly team of over 140 volunteers across the UK and you could get involved in spreading the word about akt and our services, representing us at a Pride event, raising vital funds for our work or even mentoring an LGBTQ+ young person. We are passionate about offering exciting volunteer roles that enable you to develop new skills and meet new people, all whilst knowing you are having a positive impact on the lives of LGBTQ+ young people.
For me it's seeing the difference you can make to people's lives by supporting akt. I've been able to meet some wonderful people, hear their stories and see lives be improved by the work akt do.A quote from one of our volunteers.
There are many reasons people who want to volunteer haven’t started yet – if you’re one of them, akt has volunteer roles to suit all different types of interests, experience and time commitment levels. We want our volunteering to be as flexible and accessible as possible – volunteering could mean anything from walking with us in a Pride parade once a year, meeting with a young person for an hour a week as a mentor or delivering a presentation about akt at your local school. In return we can offer you ongoing training and support, a chance to meet other like-minded volunteers and the opportunity to volunteer for a thriving LGBTQ+ charity.
By volunteering with akt, we are able to support and encourage young people and let them know that they are not alone.Volunteer Mentor

Don’t worry about what other people think of you. I used to be incredibly shy, but life is too short so don’t waste your time worrying if people will judge you. Live your best life and do what makes you happy.Fundraising Event Volunteer
