AKT was founded by a group of volunteers led by Cath Hall back in 1989. Since then our volunteers, who account for an amazing 90% of our team at AKT, have been helping to prevent youth homelessness across the country. If you have free time and a passion to make a difference then please get in touch.

Volunteering, training and support at AKT

Whether you want to support our work directly with young people, get involved in fundraising and events or offer specialist advice and support in a chosen field, please get in touch. We will be honest with you if we don’t currently have the right volunteering opportunity to fit your skills.

All our volunteers are given an induction to their role at AKT, ongoing training and support. We will keep you updated on all things AKT through our digital newsletter AKT NOW (launching soon!) and via our volunteers Facebook page.

Becoming a volunteer: three simple steps

Our promise to you

We will:

  • process your application and be in touch within 14 days;

  • start the process of getting you on board within 21 days;

  • have you volunteering for us within 6 weeks, dependent on the role*

*Due to safeguarding requirements, applicants to become Carers will go through a specific vetting and training process which can take up to six months to complete. Fundraising or events volunteers will be needed for specific dates in the AKT calendar.

I was looking for an opportunity to do some charity work and believe passionately that, living in the UK that nobody should be homeless and I also wanted to give back to my community in some way so AKT managed to address both of these for me.
