Thanks to your generous support and funding, akt supported hundreds of LGBTQ+ young people into safe, affordable and inclusive housing last year.

who we’ve helped

Between 2022-23, akt supported 817 LGBTQ+ young people facing homelessness or a hostile living environment. This number includes young people who had been referred in previous years and were receiving ongoing casework. During this time:

  • 19% of our young people were sofa surfing and 29% were living with family, prior to contacting akt.
  • 87% of young people referred to us said they had experienced rough sleeping at some point prior to referral, even if they were no longer experiencing it.

support packs and independent living funds

During 2022/23, akt provided more than 500+ support packs and/or independent living funds to LGBTQ+ young people at risk of, or experiencing homelessness. These packs provide funding towards housing and essential items. Examples of this include:

  • Emergency packs: which can include funds to cover an electric or gas top up, emergency travel, food and somewhere to stay.
  • Rainbow packs: which can provide financial help with a deposit, essential home items and funds towards moving costs.
  • Independent living funds: which provide young people with support around education, training and employment.

in 2022-23 akt’s services team provided:

interventions

During 2022-2023, akt offered guidance to LGBTQ+ young people at risk of, or experiencing homelessness, by providing support interventions. These interventions help young people with their understanding of their housing, financial and mental health needs.

across 2022-23 the akt services team carried out a total of 15,053 interventions:

  • 9,892

    interventions related to housing

  • 2,099

    providing support with finances

  • 1,662

    support sessions related to mental health

  • 4,609

    more sessions inc those related to social care and health

akt has been my guiding light through the darkest of times. from securing shelter to providing sustenance, they stood by me every step, offering not just accommodation and food, but unwavering support and compassion.
