akt is excited to share our first Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy!
Equity, diversity and inclusion aren’t taken for granted at akt. We want to create a culture where everyone feels valued and celebrated for who they are. We want people to feel that they belong, that they have equitable access to opportunities, and feel included in every aspect of our work. We want to create a culture where all our people can thrive.
Over the last 18-months we’ve been on a journey of reflection, learning and consultation to develop our first Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy. The strategy is centred around core themes of access, respect, and opportunity, with eight strategic aims setting out the type of organisation we want to create.
We’ve taken an intersectional, whole person approach to this work to recognise that there are lots of parts that make up a person and that everyone will have their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression.
We’ve considered individual needs of different groups and how removing barriers and sources of disadvantage can create a more inclusive akt.
akt is also committed to actively confronting and fighting racism across all areas of our work and making sure we become a charity that better supports all of our staff and reflects the young people we’re proud to work with. We’re commissioning an externally-led anti-racism review to inform future actions in this area.
We want to make sure this work has a long-lasting, far-reaching impact and will continue to reflect and learn as we progress this work. We’re committed to taking ownership and responsibility for this strategy to make sure that plans turn into reality and positive change is created.
Inclusivity is one of akt’s core values and we’re really committed to this area of work. We’re thrilled to have got to this pivotal point, it is such a great achievement and testament to the drive and commitment of the team involved. We’re really excited about how this will equip us to move forward and become a truly diverse and inclusive organisation, developing the behaviours we want to demonstrate to the diverse young people that we support.Sheralee, akt's director of people and operations
