akt launches 2024/25 Impact Report

We’re proud to share akt’s 2024/25 Impact & Trustee Report, celebrating another year of standing alongside LGBTQ+ young people facing or experiencing homelessness.

Minutes

Beyond the numbers

Every number in our Impact Report represents a young person’s lived experience — a story of courage, identity and survival. Behind the data are young people navigating family rejection, unsafe housing, and systems that don’t always understand their needs. Their resilience reminds us why our work must go beyond emergency support — to offer safety, belonging and hope for the future.

Our impact

Every day, we see the difference your support makes, from helping young people into safe accommodation to ensuring they’re heard, supported and believed. This year’s report shows how, together, we’ve continued to change lives even in the face of a challenging housing and funding climate.

Who we support

The young people who come to akt reflect the full diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. Many face multiple layers of discrimination — not only because of their sexuality or gender identity, but also due to race, disability, or immigration status.

This year, half identified as trans or as having a different gender than assigned at birth, and over half were disabled, including young people who are neurodivergent. We also saw an increase in referrals from young people of colour and those seeking asylum, highlighting how overlapping forms of marginalisation can make accessing safe housing even harder.

I used to sleep in the university library because I had nowhere else to go. Thanks to akt, I’m now studying there — safely housed and rebuilding my future.
