Thousands of queer young people are homeless or facing homelessness because of who they are. A donation made today could help a queer young person find a safe place to be.

Who we are

akt is the only charity working across the country to provide safe homes and better futures for LGBTQ+ homeless youth.

We believe that no one should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are.

What we do

We work with 16-25 year olds who have experienced abuse and rejection because of their identity. People like Tom, who was kicked out for being gay.

akt moved Tom off the streets and into emergency housing. Our expert caseworkers advocated with the council to secure him accomodation.

Tom has now applied sucessfully for a four year creative arts degree. He says he was suicidal before akt. Now, he is ‘excited by life’.

Thanks to your donations last year, we have delivered over 10,000 housing actions, over 2,000 financial actions, 1,000 education actions, 2500 health and disability actions, and 1600 actions related to culture & identity – for close to 800 young people in crisis.

Where your donation goes

This Pride season, we desperately need donations so we can continue to support young people into housing.

Our service is at maximum capacity and the only way we can help more young people, is with more financial support.

Your donation could:

  • Cover the cost of vital essentials like food, transport and rent.
  • Fund an expert caseworker to support a young person every step of the journey to a new, safe home.
  • Fund our online chat service, which is a lifeline to young people in crisis, no matter where they are.
  • Cover the cost of our Rainbow Starter Packs which contain everything you need to thrive in a new home.

LGBTQ youth have nowhere else to go

Over 50% of the young people in our care say they went to their local council before contacting akt and had a bad experience.

The support we provide is tailored to our community – whatever your sexuality, gender or however you itentify, we will be here in your time of need to help you thrive.

^Tom’s name has been changed to protect his identity, but his story is real.

I was suicidal. Now, I’m excited about life. akt has changed everything for me.
