Role: Communications Committee We’re looking for people with experience in… Storytelling. We’re looking for someone who can support how we navigate our media relations, and help our young people share their experiences to raise awareness of the work that we do. Digital. If you have experience in website management, in particular UX, we would love to hear from you. As a charity, we would love your guidance to help us elevate how we use digital tools to communicate with supporters and young people. Public affairs. Our public affairs work seeks to help prevent LGBTQ+ youth homelessness, and support our young people, using effective influencing and policy-change. Marketing and brand. akt has a recently developed and strong youth-focused brand, and we know that our audiences sympathise with our cause. But we need support to help take that to the next level. Crisis management. It’s important that we’re prepared for any crises that we may face as a charity – and have support to manage them if and when they arise. If you have experience in crisis management, we’d love to have you on-board with us. What commitments does this role involve? One meeting per quarter. The committee, including its Trustee members, meets four times per year with the CEO, Director of Communications and Campaigns. These take place on a Tuesday evening and are scheduled for the year in advance. As well as attending the meetings, members are expected to read the papers in advance of the meeting Project-based support. The Director of Communications and Campaigns might ask for your support or advice on the occasional project we are working on that your skills could help support What can we offer you? Experience in a non-governing role. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who might not yet be ready to join a Board of Trustees but wants to formalise the practical support they are able to give a charity Mentoring opportunity. As part of your role on the Communications Committee, there might also be the opportunity to gain experience as a mentor, providing support to specific members of the team Networking opportunities with other members. Being part of the Communications Committee will help you develop professional relationships with other passionate people in the field Expenses for travel – and other expenses considered. We are happy to cover reasonable travel expenses to attend meetings or other engagements and will consider other expenses (e.g. childcare) on application. We are also happy for you to attend meetings remotely if you have access needs or would prefer this. Joining the akt family.
