AKT’s flagship early action service is Purple Door.

In London we provide the UK’s first emergency safe house for LGBT young people At Purple Door young people have the safety and space to secure longer term housing, employment, training, debt management solutions whilst learning to live independently and hopefully be reunited with their parents.

In Newcastle we provide studio flats where we offer young people their first taste of independent life.

My parents died and I went to live with my aunt and my brothers and I was evicted. Family were not respecting my identity and conversations around taking me away to be married increased. AKT provided a safe place for me through Purple Door that has allowed me to become more open, confident and comfortable in myself. I can't thank AKT enough! I am a Support Officer and on my way to management!
