Last winter was the first time Chris had ever slept outside. His parents had found out he was bisexual and told him he wasn't allowed in their house anymore - they didn't want him near his brother and sisters. Confused, and in a state of shock, he found himself sleeping in a local park.

Chris came to AKT knowing this wasn't safe for him. That same night we helped him access a winter shelter, just as we help so many young people like Chris; people who have been turned away from their home and everything they know simply for being who they are.

This winter we need your help to keep more young people Out of the Cold:

£25.00 could keep a young person safe in LGBTQ+ friendly accommodation for a night

£50.00 can cover multiple nights of safety, as well as toiletries, mobile phone top-up, food vouchers and travel allowance

The nights are getting colder out there, which is why we need your help. Our Out of the Cold appeal will mean more LGBTQ+ young people never have to find themselves without a safe and warm place to sleep.

Want to get involved? There are plenty of fantastic ways you can show your support this winter:

- Donate to the appeal

- Fundraise for us with friends

- Get the support of your company

- Volunteer at one of our events

- Create a Facebook Fundraiser

- Text "AKT OOTC" to 70660 to make a £3.00 donation (click the link for T&Cs)

Chris told us, "I could tell AKT things I’d never told anyone before. Nothing shocked them, and they knew how to help.

Straight away I didn’t feel so alone anymore.

They gave me the confidence to return to college, and helped me move into a rented flat just outside of London. Every step gets me closer to where I want to be.

I look back at last winter and it feels like a lifetime ago.
