akt is excited to be recruiting two new staff members through the Government's Kickstarter Scheme. The aim of the scheme is to give young people the chance to build skills in the workplace so we do not expect applicants to have any specific qualifications or work experience for these roles. The roles are therefore perfect for anyone looking to gain experience in the non-profit or LGBTQ+ sector. 

Successful applicants will also be given opportunities to meet with other kickstarter recruits from across the LGBTQ+ sector as part of Queerstart, a joining together of 13 LGBTQ+ organisations who are providing job placements under the kickstart scheme. 

Please note - to apply for this role you must be referred by your job centre coach. We can only accept applicants for this role aged between 16 and 24.

Salary: £9.50 per hour (£10.85 with London weighting)

Hours: 25 hours per week. Exact hours to be discussed with your line manager but will be mostly worked within akt’s office hours (9-5 Monday-Friday) with occasional evening work

Location: Reasonable travelling distance to Bristol, London, Manchester, or Newcastle. Depending on the situation with the pandemic and the candidates’ personal situation, we expect work to be carried out either from home, in one of our office spaces, or a mix of the two.

Contract: Temporary 6-month contract

We are currently recruiting for two kickstarter recruits:

Communications assistant

  • Will work to support the communications function at akt, which will include working on digital and social media, marketing and media relations, research, campaigns and public affairs and brand.
  • Will be supported in these areas by relevant members of the team to deliver project support, for example crafting social copy for Black History Month or researching campaign ideas to mark Trans Day of Remembrance.
  • As part of the role, we will also ask this person to undertake desk-based research and thinking about how akt can approach developing a presence on social platforms including Tik Tok, Twitch and Snapchat.

Services assistant

  • Assisting with akt’s live chat service and take on shifts of answering live chats from service users as well as working with the Digital Services Co-Ordinator to compile rotas.
  • Assisting Services Caseworkers to keep young people informed of activities happening at akt through mail outs and creating Word and PDF documents.
  • Administration tasks such as emailing out documents and compiling timetables. Helping to facilitate youth engagement activities online, including setting up zoom links, distributing materials, co-ordinating with external facilitators and helping young people access sessions as well as co-facilitating activities with service users.
  • Working with Services staff on updating our Client Management System, Inform, and undertake tasks as directed by our Inform lead.
