akt is delighted to welcome four new trustees to its board!

The new board members - including akt’s first ever social worker with lived experience of homelessness - come from a diverse range of backgrounds and will help steer the strategic direction of the charity.

They are Yoni Ejo, CEO of Diversity Adopt; Amy Prendergast, Director of Change, People and Learning at the Retail Trust; Lee Beattie, CEO of the John Doe Group; and Colin Douglas, Communications Consultant.

Yoni is a qualified social worker with a history of supporting people and children in care, partially informed by her own experience of homelessness. Amy has over twelve years’ experience in the third sector and is an expert in leading cultural change and creating inclusive diverse workspaces.

“I look forward to being a part of supporting, encouraging, developing and in some situations, challenging staff and leadership to provide exemplary support to LGBTQ+ young people,” said Yoni.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the board of akt and to be involved in driving positive change,” said Amy. “This is a fantastic opportunity to champion rights across the LGBTQ+ community”.

Lee is a brand specialist and has led on big-budget creative campaigns and is the co-founder of The Bloody Big Brunch campaign which seeks to eradicate period poverty. Colin has over twenty years director-level experience in communications and marketing including for the NHS.

“I am honoured to be able to use my experience to support and add value to the vital work akt is already delivering”, said Lee.

“No one should have to choose between being open about their sexual orientation or gender identity and having a roof over their head”, said Colin. “I look forward to supporting the organisation in continuing this important work”.

akt’s mission is to reach every LGBTQ+ young person across the U.K who may need our support.

To achieve this goal the charity needs clear strategic direction from knowledgeable figures. The new trustees’ expertise in service delivery, public affairs, media relations and branding can support akt in achieving this goal, and more broadly speaking, keep akt accountable in its aim to diversify and grow nationwide.
