Gala Dinner raises over £180,000 On 19th October, nearly 300 AKT supporters celebrated the amazing work of AKT at the Café de Paris. Gok Wan brought his humour and personality to the event as our host and AKT Patron and supporter, Dan Gillespie Sells gave the crowd a unique preview of a few songs from his hit musical, Jamie in advance of its West End debut. Sophie Ellis Bextor got the crowd out of their seats and onto the dance floor with few of her greatest hits and Jodie Harsh kept the crowd dancing until the early hours with her upbeat DJ set to finish the night. But the real stars of the evening were our Young Ambassadors: Lodia, Gino, Isaac and Faz. Each faced rejection, ejection from home and abuse from their families or communities simply for being who they are – but with the help of AKT each are thriving in employment or education and have a bright future ahead of them. The crowd was so moved by these incredible stories of survival, that over £180,000 was raised this year making 2017 our most successful Gala Dinner to date. We are so grateful to all who attended, bid or pledged on the night. The success of the night could not have happened with our generous sponsors of the event: AIG, COREcruitment and Disney. We are also grateful to the fashion powerhouse, Henry Holland for creating a unique charity T-shirt with a group of our young people to support AKT. All of this invaluable support will have an incredible impact in the reach and range of our work for the years to come. Plans are currently underway for 2018’s event and tickets will go on sale this summer. As soon as we announce the details, be sure to book quickly!
