AKT Champions

Help raise awareness of the work of AKT so we can continue to support more LGBTQ+ homeless young people in crisis.

Do you work with teenage children? Are you a member of a faith group? Are you involved in activities for young people such as a sports team, university society or scout group? 

As an AKT Champion, you will work under the supervision of the Services team to engage with a variety of local organisations and groups to raise awareness of the work of AKT to reach out to LGBTQ+ young people who may need AKT's support and increase referrals into our services.

There are three levels of the role of AKT Champion:


Suggested activities


Taking AKT leaflets into your local community (e.g. schools, colleges, universities, youth groups, cubs/guides, churches, libraries, GP surgeries, sports groups, coffee shops etc.)


Doing a short talk to a group of school assembly in your local community about AKT services and how to refer, attending an event in the LGBTQ+ community, delivering pre-organised outreach activities e.g. volunteering on an AKT stall at an event, fair or Pride event


Presenting to your work colleagues, delivering AKT outreach with other local charitable organisations (e.g. street teams) and presenting at a conference

Useful previous experience/skills

  • Confidence speaking in front of groups of various sizes
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good understanding of the LGBTQ+ community and issues faced
