We're looking for a Services Manager (London and the South East) to join our London team.

Hours: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Location: London (some travel may be required)

Job Summary 

  • To work in partnership with the Director and Assistant Director to develop the services plan and manage the successful delivery and development of London Services. 
  • Manage akt’s Housing offer in London ensuring that we are legally compliant and adhere to best practice in Health and Safety. 
  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships and opportunities that support us to safely meet young people immediate housing needs and move on to longer term accommodation in London.  
  • Manage and provide supervision for; staff, students and volunteers who provide case work and advocacy to homeless LGBTQ+ young people. 

Key Tasks 

  • Ensure the successful delivery of all objectives and targets included in the AKT strategic, annual plans and key performance indicator targets relating to provision of service
  • Support, develop and supervise staff and volunteers building a strong and dynamic team culture, and ensure the Team understands, recognises, and meets the needs and expectations of AKT’s service users
  • To work as part of the Services Management team and wider akt Management team and attend relevant meetings and complete tasks assigned 
  • Be accountable for the budget relating to London
  • Take responsibility for the management of specific projects relating to service delivery.
  • Contribute to services committee as required.
  • Alongside the Operation’s team, ensure that akt London office is a safe place to work and meet the needs of services staff and young people. 
  • Have oversight over host placements in London
  • Have oversight of Purple Door Housing Project including managing voids, maintenance and rent collection
  • Ensure Purple Door is utilised to its capacity to ensure maximum amount of young people can be supported. 
  • To provide guidance and support around case work including safeguarding, challenging statuary decisions, navigation of health and social care services and referrals and pathways into specialist services.
  • Complete monitoring reports for internal use and to satisfy the requirements of commissioners and other key funders
  • Alongside the Communications team, ensure the voices and experiences of the young people we support are heard and responded to within policy and service provision, ensuring the local needs and issues faced by young people in London are heard.
  • Sustain existing and develop further networks and partnerships for akt within London that can help support the young people we support.
  • Contribute to and delivery training to appropriate stakeholders to ensure the needs to LGBTQ+ young people are understood and identified.
  • Keep up to date and well informed within your areas of specific and general responsibility
  • Demonstrate leadership within your areas of responsibility as well as within your wider responsibility as a Services Manager in akt

Funding and Budgetary responsibilities 

  • Work alongside fundraising to identify potential financial support for the young people and opportunity for growth of the service. 
  • Manage and be accountable for the implementation and delivery of budgets relating to AKT services in London
  • Ensure reporting is completed and submitted to deadline and to a high standard
  • Ensure Purple Door scheme remains economically viable by the management of rent collection and void loss

Line Responsibilities  

The Services Manager will have line management responsibility for the Services team in London which is currently a team of 4. There may also be requirements to providing support for case workers across the other three cities, as the organisation requires.  

Other responsibilities 

  • To attend regular support, supervision and agreed training
  • To participate in the office cleaning with all other members of staff
  • To represent akt appropriately and effectively at all times
  • To work within akt’s staff code of conduct and all other policies and procedures
  • To organise and participate in some events out of office hours, e.g. fundraising and publicity events
  • Performing other duties commensurate with the role, as required, to fulfil the department’s responsibilities and help other members of the wider team at busy times
  • akt may from time to time require you to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of akt on a short term basis e.g. holiday or sickness cover.

Person Specification

Essential criteria 

  • Demonstrable experience of working in social care, homelessness, housing management or advice and guidance
  • Experience of managing and supervising a team of staff
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement and monitor health and safety in relation to supported housing scheme.
  • Experience of supervising staff who are working one-on-one with and assessing the needs of homeless people , residents or similar disadvantaged client groups.
  • Empathetic attitude to homeless and vulnerably-housed people.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of the welfare issues and housing legislation affecting vulnerable young people.
  • Good communication, negotiation, influencing and advocacy skills with individuals and organisations.
  • Commitment to LGBTQ+ equality and a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination and exclusion on the grounds of age, race or ethnicity, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, faith or belief, disability, socio-economic status, or caring responsibility.
  • Ability to keep clear and up-to-date case records and proficient use of Microsoft and office365 based applications.
  • Ability to adhere to and implement Health & Safety, HR and operational policies and supervise staff to ensure these policies are followed
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

Desirable Criteria 

  • Knowledge of Mental Health conditions and available services
  • Knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ+ services and networks in London
  • Knowledge and understanding of housing and homelessness networks in London
  • Knowledge and understanding of intersectional identities and complex related needs.
  • Knowledge of immigration needs
  • Experience making housing benefit and universal credit claims
  • Qualification in Leadership and Management or relevant sector-specific qualification
  • Experience of managing social work student placements and be practise educator qualified
