akt is on a journey with digital.

We have a website, a live chat service, and an e-mentoring platform. We use ThankQ for CRM and a range of digital platforms for taking payments e.g. Stripe and Give Panel. Elsewhere in the organisation we lack digital functions and rely on paper systems which we put online. We know we could be taking more advantage of digital and are looking to take bold steps forward in the next year and undertake a digital transformation of the organisation.

To help ensure we take the best steps we have a contract opportunity for someone with time and expertise to assess what we should stop, what we should start and what we should continue doing digitally. This will be in terms of both culture and skills, as well as technology and platforms.

It will require someone personable, persistent and confident, who can ‘sell’ digital to colleagues across the organisation, who you will have to have regular conversations with. These interactions should embed learning and confidence in digital where possible.

It will also involve undertaking research chats with donors and young people, set up by akt, to ensure what we’re doing digitally is fit-for-purpose for our audiences, meets their needs, and is delivered in ways they can access.

akt is committed to being an inclusive workplace that represents the diverse communities we serve. We actively encourage applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds. We particularly encourage applications from Black, POC, transgender identities and disability groups, who are currently under-represented within akt. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability or age. We are happy to discuss any reasonable adjustments individuals may require in the recruitment process, on commencement, or once in post

At akt there is a varying level of enthusiasm and understanding of digital tools, so you will need to be mindful of this when talking to different members of the organisation.

There is a budget of up to £15,000 (including VAT) maximum to cover the costs of your contract and work with us, dependant on experience and proposal.

Ultimately, akt is looking to use digital to…

  • reach and support more LGBTQ+ young people, and support them more
  • increase the funding and support we receive for our work (from individual donors and other sources)

This work should enable akt to…

  • Confidence from research with staff, young people and supporters of akt. This will identify barriers and opportunities to supporting them/generating income.
  • Clarity from a report giving recommendations on what we should do next with a range of approximate investment options in terms of…
    • Creation of or adaptation of job roles
    • Training interventions
    • Platforms / digital projects
    • Other recommendations for interventions as appropriate
  • A high level roadmap of recommended interventions showing dependencies between projects
  • A step forward in our culture and our team’s buy in to digital.

We would also welcome informal recommendations of or introductions to any funders you are aware of that could help fund future phases of our digital journey, especially higher risk / more innovative work that would be harder for us to get sign off for from our own reserves.
