This year akt appointed a new President. Faz Bukhari is a young person who has experienced first hand the services and support akt offers young LGBTQ+ people every single day. We caught up with Faz and asked about an eventful 2019 and an exciting 2020 ahead...

How has akt been for you this year?
Amazing! I became the President, Which is really exciting! I have so much planned for the next year and a half.

What have your highlights been this year?
All of it, if I'm honest. I’m looking back at when I first came to akt as a young person and I'm just in awe of how much I've progressed in my personal and professional development. From my first exciting project going to America as a camp counsellor, to presenting at panels, conferences and strategy days, and meeting such amazing professionals and young people. I can honestly say that I learn something new with each experience.

How do you feel about being President?
Words cannot explain how I feel. I'm so happy to have been given this opportunity to be the voice for young people. I'm even happier to be a QPOC who has this platform to discuss QPOC issues, to create initiatives, and to raise awareness for change.

What are you looking forward to next year?
Lots and lots of exciting new things! I'm excited for all the people I will learn from in my role as President. I'm looking forward to writing my own book too.
