Our 295 mile, 4 day bike ride takes us through the beautiful Kent countryside to Dover, before crossing the Channel to Calais.
Our route takes us along quiet French country lanes, through traditional market towns with views of the rolling, green fields of Northern France, passing the war memorials and cemeteries of the Somme. The pièce de résistance of this cycle challenge will be the final cycle up the Champs Elysées to the Arc de Triomphe, following in the tyre tracks of the cycling greats, before watching them cycle the same route the next day in the finale of the Tour de France!
London to Calais
After registration at the start point in Croydon we start early at approx. 7am to avoid the hustle and bustle of the London traffic. It’s not too long before we’re past the outskirts of London and hitting the countryside of Kent, before we arrive at our lunch stop south of Maidstone near Chart Sutton.
It’s a long day today but upon reaching the port of Dover and witnessing its famous white cliffs, we’ll experience a great sense of achievement. We then board the ferry to Calais and have dinner whilst on board.
Upon reaching Calais we cycle to our hotel where we have a much deserved rest and get our heads down for the night.
Cycling distance – approx. 84 miles
Calais to Amiens
Following breakfast at our hotel, we start cycling ‘French style’, remembering to stay on the right! A long day awaits us today. We cycle through traditional French countryside, with views of green meadows as Calais is left behind us.
We ride through the Somme region heading immediately south – depending on your cycling speed, why not stop off at the many cafés en route! We then ride into the picturesque city of Amiens where we overnight after a triumphant day in the saddle.
Cycling distance – approx. 101 miles
Amiens to Creil
A shorter day awaits us today after the challenging ride yesterday. After breakfast we continue with our cycling challenge as we head south following tree-lined avenues that wind their way through traditional market towns.
We soon reach our overnight stop in Creil, situated in the Picardy Region. One of the most significant historical events to occur in Picardy was the series of battles fought along the Somme during World War I.
Cycling distance – approx. 64 miles
Compiègne to Paris
The final day of our European cycling adventure! Leaving Creil behind us we venture immediately south towards the majestic capital of Paris. Cycling is the national sport of France and it’s normal to see locals cheering and waving us on. We
will stop at the Louvre for the group to re-assemble before reaching the Champs-Elysees, then we ride through as a group finishing our challenge beneath the most famous landmark of Paris – the Eifel Tower.
This evening we celebrate our achievements at our celebratory dinner.
Cycling distance – approx. 50 miles
Watch the finale of the Tour de France!
After breakfast at our hotel, we are free to enjoy the sights and sounds of Paris. The Tour De France will be reaching its climax today as it races through the streets of Paris, so ensure you grab your place on the Champs-Elysees to see some of the action.
In the early evening each participant will be responsible for getting himself or herself to Gare du Nord in order to catch the Eurostar back to St Pancras. Bicycles will be transported back to London and upon our arrival back in the UK, we take a short transfer back to the starting point for farewell and goodbyes. Alternatively, participants are free to travel home directly from St Pancras and we can arrange for your bicycle to meet you there.
