AKT has 28 years experience of providing safe homes, support, training and mentoring to LGBT young people who are homeless or living in a hostile environment after coming out to their parent or care giver. Our unique services are offered across London, Manchester and Newcastle, with our online support service inter-AKT available nationally.
In response to the findings of AKT’s National Scoping of Youth Homelessness in 2015, AKT have developed a unique and nationally significant Quality Mark Scheme which comprises training and consultancy for participating organisations. The aim of our training is to help providers achieve consistent and sustainable better practice in their work with LGBT young people: encouraging shifts in knowledge, values and culture within their organisation.
AKT young people are fully involved in the delivery of the Quality Mark as trainers, to ensure the product is responsive to their needs. Participants who successfully complete the one-day training course will be awarded the Quality Mark in recognition of their commitment to working with LGBT people. The Quality Mark also includes a package of resources and access to further information and support.
The Quality Mark is especially relevant to Foster Care Agencies, Housing Providers and Youth Services.
